"A small isolated community filled with darkness and secrecy. Welcome to Ponyville."

You see that up there? That description? Yep, that's all we get before plunging into this story. Dark indeed.

Before we get started, it's of utmost importance that I point out that this fic is a ponified parody of the Welcome To Night Vale podcast series. Due to this fact, if you're unfamiliar with the podcast, you will probably not find as much enjoyment with this story as those of us who are familiar with it. Just a heads up.

The Good

The meat of this fic revolves around a strange, haunting, and humourous radio broadcast throughout the town of Ponyville. This Ponyville, however, is not the Ponyville you know and love from the show. *insert sinister laugh* Gone are the carefree ponies enjoying day to day life beneath the benevolent rule of the Princesses. Instead, welcome to a dark world of danger, hate, sickness, and oppression.

A world much like the one we live in today.

That's where this story shines. It's humorous take on today's problems is very dry, very blunt, and very relevant. It's a dark and sometimes twisted world we live in, and this story laughs in its face through the eyes of Ponyville citizens.

The Bad

Granted, there are some problems with this story. For one, there are a few grammatical issues and problems with punctuation. Not enough to really distract from the story, but enough that the grammar Nazis will most definitely find them.

Also, this story is not for everyone. If you can't catch the humour or realize the references to it's base "Night Vale" material, there's a good chance you won't have as enjoyable a time as one who does. Unfotunately, since the majority of the plot revolves around the same idea and situations, it doesn't offer a whole lot of variety to readers new to the premise. But, that's not saying this is a bad fic, it just won't appeal to all.

The Bottom Line

Welcome To Ponyville is an enjoyable read for someone who appreciates a good dose of mature humor. It's witty, silly, and thoughtful. I would recommend this to anyone looking to try something new, and who would enjoy a strange take on the town of Ponyville.
